Clinic Policies

Free enquiry call

Please note that each client is entitled to only one free enquiry call, unless an agreement has been made between you and your therapist.

Duration of counselling sessions

A standard individual counselling session is 50 minutes. For your first session (also known as the intake session), we recommend booking an 80 minute session so you and your therapist can more fully explore the issues for which you are seeking support.

A standard couples session is 80 minutes, to allow time for both partners to participate.

Please be punctual for your appointments, as sessions must end on time (e.g. if your session is from 2pm to 3pm and you arrive at 2.20pm, your session will still conclude at 3pm). If circumstances permit, you may be able to extend your session at a fee of $36 for each 10-minute block.

Cancelling and rescheduling

Once an appointment is booked, you can cancel or reschedule up to 48 hours before the appointment, either by using the link in your appointment confirmation email or by contacting the clinic at 8775 9038.

Barring extreme circumstances, cancellations within 48 hours will result in the full fee being charged.

All packages must be paid in full. We do not accept installments.

Packages must be used within 6 months. Any remaining sessions will expire 6 months after the first session.

Risks associated with counselling

Every client’s circumstances are unique. We cannot guarantee that you will achieve your desired results through the counselling process.

During the process of counselling, you may experience various difficult or uncomfortable emotions. This is a typical part of the process. Before attending counselling, do consider carefully the extent to which you feel able to tolerate some degree of emotional disturbance. Your therapist will do their best to support you and go at a pace you are comfortable with. Please feel free to give your therapist feedback about your sessions.

Responsibility for actions

Generally, counsellors do not give clients advice or tell them what to do. Any and all actions taken by you as a result of information disseminated during your counselling sessions are ultimately your responsibility; we cannot be held responsible.

Indemnification

When you agree to receive counselling services at North Ship Counselling, you agree to indemnify the company and your therapist from any and all losses, claims, liabilities, damages, and expenses for property damage or personal injury, including death, arising out of or resulting from or in connection with receiving counselling services from us.

You also agree that neither North Ship Counselling nor your counsellor may be asked to appear or testify in any ongoing or future legal or paralegal proceedings.

Record-keeping

The clinic maintains client records, including personal information and session notes, for the length of time that is required by applicable law(s), as well as the standards recommended by professional counselling organisations.

These records are stored securely and will be disposed of safely when they have reached the time of expiry.
